Michigan Housing Index Shows Increased Momentum for Michigan Builders and Remodelers PDF Print E-mail

Builder’s Index Ends 2011 30 Percent Ahead of 2010. Remodeler’s Activity Improved 24 Percent Over Year Earlier.

A statewide survey of homebuilders and remodelers shows increased momentum for Michigan’s homebuilding industry. The Michigan Housing Index, covering the fourth quarter of 2011, showed a 30 percent improvement in current homebuilding and projected future activity as compared to the same period in 2010. The same survey showed residential remodeling ahead of 2010 by 24 percent.. The latest Michigan Housing Index (MHI) covers the time period of October through December 2011.

A statewide survey of homebuilders covering the third quarter of 2011, showed a slight decline in home building activity compared to the same period one year ago. The same survey showed residential remodeling holding steady compared to year ago levels. Builders Activity Index Shows 38% Gain over 2010.  Remodelers Index Also Continues Upward Trend  

A statewide survey of homebuilders covering the second quarter of 2011, showed sharp increases for new building and remodeling over the same period one year ago. The Michigan Housing Index (MHI) for new homebuilding activity has remained fairly steady in recent months, averaging a score of 36 for the quarter ending June 30, 2011. Though overall activity remains slow in the current economy, the MHI second quarter index is sharply ahead of the same period last year, when the index only registered a 26.

Homebuilders Survey Shows Third Consecutive Quarterly Increase.
Remodelers Index at the Highest Level Since March 2010.  

A statewide survey of homebuilders covering the first quarter of 2011 showed a continuing trend of modest improvement in new building activity and a much sharper upturn for the remodeling industry. The Michigan Housing Index (MHI) survey of homebuilders increased 9 percent for the quarter ending March 31, 2011, which represents a nine percent increase over the quarter ending in December 2010. The MHI survey of remodelers showed its third consecutive monthly increase and stands at its highest level since March 2010.

A statewide survey of homebuilders showed modest improvement at the end of 2010, which combined with a forecast predicting 16.5 percent growth in the number of building permits in 2011has officials connected to the homebuilding industry cautiously optimistic in their outlook.

Michigan Home Builders Survey Shows Slight Uptick in Activity But Market Remains Soft
Homebuilders Hopeful New Administration Will Help Boost Michigan’s Economy  

(Lansing, MI) – A statewide survey of homebuilders shows slight improvement in the housing market during the third quarter of 2010, but overall, current and future homebuilding activity remains flat. The results are contained in the Michigan Housing Index, which is a quarterly summary of building and remodeling activity compiled by the Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB).
